An Open Letter From German Friends

Dear friends of the Tan-Nan project in Taiwan,
Dear inhabitants of Tan-Nan,

Almost half a year has passed without any contact from our side since our departure from the beautiful mountains in Taiwan.
Despite of that, we kept connected to Taiwan, and followed the further drying process and further work on "our" common house from Germany.

We of Heimstätte Dünne have a very good and rich memory of this busy shell building time characterized by enthusiasm and cooperation in March.
Our project in Byelorussia running for many years and whose target it is to relocate victims contaminated by radiation from the area around Chernobyl rarely encountered such motivated employees such as you. Work with you was a lot of fun.

We believe that  you also learned something.
Not only that it is possible to build a decent, healthy house using relatively simple means, but also the experience that a common, goal-orientated work leads to success.
And some of you who rarely used their hands to do manual activities, wondered what can be achieved under professional guidance.

Work with clay, in particular, is laborious, but it is uncomplicated, and it can be done everywhere in the world. There is no building material which is healthier, and its qualities show especially today, where allergies and poisoning by the use of improper building material become apparent.
In view of different climate zones (Europe/Taiwan) we were slightly sceptical in March, whether this experiment would succeed due to rainy season and high humidity.
Now in Autumn, we see that it has worked, and we of course want to complete the house and convince even critical observers.

Ren will be in Taiwan for a month starting from the second half in September.
His target is to complete the house to a large extent, after arrangement with the architecture enterprise Hsieh. He of course will need help to do so, but it can also be foreseen that he will not have sufficient time to manage all of this.

As announced in March, Hubert will come to Taiwan at the begin of November to finalize work on the house. He will stay for three weeks, and even plans to initiate a schooling and training course in carpentry with those inhabitants of Tan-Nan, who would like to learn that.
Markus will come to Taiwan in the middle of November and continue the work. he intends to stay there for two to three months when the beginning seems to be promising. Even a new project which will be of benefit to village would be possible.
Due to the large number of volunteers in March there were only a few inhabitants of Tan-Nan who took part in. This shall change.
The inhabitants should to make the experience that they together are strong and can then achieve a lot. Alcoholism and no perspective are problems of some inhabitants which are to be addressed. Optimism and trust in the future of the tribe shall be set forward, whereby strengthening of confidence in oneself is an important requirement.
We Germans have grown fond of the village with its inhabitants. We felt very comfortable there. The more it is our interest to make a contribution  to the benefit of the village and offer a small share of help. In fact, the real work for the tribe's future must be done by the inhabitants themselves.
To do so, we invite you cordially to support them in various ways and manners.
To build together is only a part of the work.
The planned completion of the house and further qualification of interested inhabitants require less participation of volunteers. The inhabitants shall be the focus of attention.
Despite of this, Hubert would like to see again all who participated in the construction. This could be made possible by a meeting in the second half of November in Tan-Nan to celebrate the completion of the house. Probably not all will be able to come, but Hubert hopes to welcome many of those who would like to celebrate their own work and the contribution to success together with the inhabitants of the village and the employees of the architecture enterprise Hsieh.
